Validating formulas in excel 2016
Data validation makes a list more creative and user-friendly.
Instead of having data in different cells of a column, you have the option to choose any data based on a list in a cell.
In this example, we will create a main drop-down list along with 2 dependent lists. Note: Here in the Item list of Sheet S1 we used the name Ice_Cream instead of Ice Cream.
In sheet S1, create 3 lists of Item, Ice Cream, and Juice. The reason for using an underscore symbol is that while indicating a name in the Name Box you cannot use “-” or space in between characters.
A good example is any spreadsheet that uses or is used with custom automation.
We have validated spreadsheets that contained hundreds of formulas and custom macros, but did not require any user intervention at all because they were created, populated with data and saved entirely by external code.
The goal of our validation strategy is to provide better testing and documentation of individual spreadsheets in less time.
We will also see the process of restricting data entry in a range of cells with data validation. In this case, the focus of the validation was on validating formulas and macros, but security testing was limited to proving that users could not intercept or interrupt the operation at any time.We are not going to make any assumptions about the existing SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) that may be currently in use, any material presented here can be adapted to meet your existing standards and practices.Stack Exchange network consists of 175 Q&A communities including Stack Overflow, the largest, most trusted online community for developers to learn, share their knowledge, and build their careers.Visit Stack Exchange Applying data validation to a whole column is not a good practice.
