Updating cells based selection drop down list data validation
This time we can learn how to auto-populate information based on drop-down selection. You can use similar types of data to populate information as per your choice. When I select any team from the drop-down, the name of the corresponding team players should populate in corresponding columns. So the names of the players populated below the Free Agent column. Here is yet another awesome Google Sheets tutorial. The other day I was reading a post over at the Contextures blog about Dynamic Dependent Excel Drop Downs and realized that using an Excel Table would provide an alternative method that is both simple and flexible.
When you select any team from this drop-down you need to populate data range in the corresponding columns. Just copy and paste the following query formulas in Cell B2, C2, D2 and E2 respectively. Seems like you interpreted everything mentioned above correctly. For example, if a user types yes, an error alert will be displayed. Click in the Source box and select the range A1: A3 on Sheet2. Note: this makes your drop-down list case sensitive. If you have done all the steps above correctly you will get the desired result. If things are not working correctly for you just ask me below in comments to share the finished Spreadsheet. This way you can auto-populate information based on a drop-down selection in Google Sheets.
